Antique Adventures/Outfit of the Day

Hey everyone! Today we went to a few antique stores in our downtown. We thought we would share a couple of things we found, as well as a quick outfit of the day!

Mo purchased this pillow from one of the vintage shops. The fabric is from a drape that used to hang in a castle in Paris. We are loving it!

Tuesday Tunes

Hey everyone! Here are a couple of songs that I've been enjoying! Check them out to see if you like them. Hope y'all had a great weekend, and your week is off to a fantastic start. I will be packing up on Thursday to fly to my favorite city, Chicago, to see a huge number of bands play at a music festival! These two just happen to be there! :)

Friday Loves

Hey! Happy Friday everyone, we made it! It sure has been a crazy week for us, but we most definitely still have our loves from this week.

TV Show: The Hills. MTV has been playing this show pretty much every morning, and we absolutely love being able to watch it. It may be what they call "RetroMTV," but there is nothing like The Hills. And it is available on Netflix too, which is a major plus!

Home Decor: This chalkboard wall is in Mo's new humble abode. A chalkboard wall is a cute and inexpensive way to spice up any living area. It will be so much fun to have and use. Imagine all the possibilities this wall presents!

This is Diego the cat pillow. You can find him at Urban Outfitters. I mean how fun is this pillow?! It will look so lovely in Kat's dorm room! A little pillow to not miss the cat as much while she is away.

Hair Accessories: As you can tell from the previous post, we love our hair accessories! By adding a headband or a fun hair pin, you can easily jazz up any outfit. If you would like a DIY for the flower headband, let us know!

Beauty: It doesn't matter if you are 15 or 50, at some point in a woman's life we have had some blemish problems. We all try and find a good concealer and/or foundation that helps cover it up. Well here is the make-up! This is the best thing to buy. Not only does this have great coverage but this concealer and foundation are medicated to help get rid of and prevent acne. The concealer and foundation are from Clinique's Acne Solutions line.

We hope you all have a lovely weekend! :)

Feather Hair Pin

Hey y'all! So I absolutely love to accessorize my outfits with any type of hair pins or headbands. Something as simple as a hair accessory can complete any outfit and pull it together. Today I am going to show you how to make this adorable feather hair pin. It's super easy and cute!
Feather Hair Pin

Here is what you will need:
Scissors
Hot Glue Gun
Bobby Pin
Feathers (I like to use regular and colored ones)
Button
Felt

Begin by cutting a piece of felt that is the same size of your button, and don't worry about making it a perfect circle.
Next, fold the piece of felt in half and cut two slits in the middle of it.

Weave the bobby pin through the two slits, so it is nice and secure to the piece of felt.

Make sure your button is face down, and then place the feathers on it. I like to use all natural looking feathers and then add a pop by using a colored one. I love the way it looks!
Once you are happy with your feather placement, grab your hot glue gun and glue them to the back of the button. Next, take your piece of felt and bobby pin and hot glue that on top of the feathers.

And just like that, you are finished! It is super easy to make and they are so fun!
The finished product
Hope you enjoyed, and I would love to know if any of you make one. Have a wonderful day!

Thrift

Happy Friday everyone! Hope everyone is as ready for the weekend as I am! It's been a crazy last couple of days so we haven't got to post anything, but I did have some time to go to the local Goodwill and Wilted Sunflower, and find some really awesome pieces that I love! I am always wearing a thrifted item with every outfit. I often get the questions, "How do you shop there?" or  "How do you put an outfit with something from Goodwill?" Well here are some photos of the items I purchased matched with an everyday outfit!

Here is a blue jean cut-off button up from Goodwill for $2! It goes perfect with a peasant skirt or a high waisted short. Love this.

I am in love with this purple/black jean vest from the Wilted Sunflower. This piece was only $5! It adds the rocker, edgy look to any outfit!

The cardigan and high waisted black short are both from the local Goodwill! I purchased this amazing cardigan for only $3 and the black high waisted shorts for $4! You could seriously match these two items with ANYTHING!

This is such an awesome piece. Everyone should have a black/navy striped top in their closet.
(or at least i think so) It goes perfect with a yellow, red, or any bright pant. My favorite is a black pant with a bright red lip! I got this item from the Wilted Sunflower for $6.

Well, hope you enjoyed some of the thrifty finds I purchased this week! I'm sure I'll have more to show you soon! Everyone have a fabulous weekend!! Here is a little quote to leave you with:

“The most important thing to remember is that you can wear all the greatest clothes and all the greatest shoes, but you’ve got to have a good spirit on the inside. That’s what’s really going to make you look like you’re ready to rock the world.” — Alicia Keys

Tuesday's Tunes

Hi y'all! Hope you have started out with a good week. Tuesday's Tunes is going to be a monthly post where we show you some of our favorite songs we have been listening to. Summer comes around and its time to roll down the windows, and blast your favorite hits! Its one of my favorite things about summer. Here are some of my top 10 favorite songs of the summer:

  • Delta Spirit is one of my favorite bands! I heard them last year at Lollapalooza and loved them, now I'm looking forward to seeing them again this year. I guess they were so good, they just had to have them on the lineup again! This song by them titled "California" is from their newest album. It just makes me want to get my air guitar out and start jamming.
  • Lana Del Rey is one of my most favorite artists this summer! This song is perfect. It has that awesome summer feel you are looking for in a song. All of her music is fabulous from her album Born to Die, but "Radio" has really grown on me.
  • I just recently heard of this band, Leagues, at the beginning of the summer and they are awesome! In my opinion they have a bit of a poppy sound, but also remind me of a Kings of Leon too. They have awesome guitar riffs, and are so much fun to listen to! This is one of my favorites of theirs called, "Magic".
  • I'm not usually into the whole dub-step/electric music thing, but for some reason I love this song. It's by Nero and its called, "Me & You". Another song by them that you could check out if you enjoy this one is "Promises".
  • I had to make sure I got this song up here! I was not a big Bieber fan AT ALL, but when this song came out i was sold! This song and his new album is so much different from his other stuff! I guess you can say, I've caught Bieber fever!! This song is "Boyfriend".
  • Everyone loves John Mayer, but this new album is soooo different from all of his other stuff! This song titled "Queen of California" is one of my favorites from the new album. Don't get me wrong every single song on the album is fantastic, but this ones honey-sweet harmony makes you want to just sing along!
  • I really enjoy this band called Best Coast. I tend to forget about them until summer comes along, because its such a summery mix. This is one of their newer songs called, "The Only Place". Its obviously about California (which is on my bucket list of places to go), and has the most optimistic, up beat melody. What I would do to be sitting in Cali. listening to this song!!!
  • You guys have to listen to this group called Neon Indian! Its in that sub-genre, of chillwave music. I really love this song for summer titled, "Polished Girl". If you really enjoy this song you might want to check out another band that my boyfriend showed me that has that same chill sound by the name of, Washed Out! Their great!
  • Who doesn't love Norah Jones?? Her newest album is incredible though! I could have put every song on here, so I just decided to put the title track, "Little Broken Hearts". The thump of the guitar and the smoky voice she has is just amazing throughout the whole album!
  • Last but certainly not least is my favorite, The Black Keys. Their new album El Camino is so good, especially this song, "Stop Stop". All there songs have awesome guitar and a catchy chorus. I love the old classic rock feel The Black Keys always have. They easily make my top 10!! I'm seeing them in August and am so stoked!!
So, There is my top ten! I hope you enjoy and find some new tunes on here that you love just as much as I do. I am no music expert, I just really love music. Also I'd like to leave you with a funny little quote/saying I found:
There are two means of refuge from the miseries of life: music and cats.
                                                      -Albert Schweitzer
                                                                                                                xoxo, Kat

Jar of Hope

Hello everyone! I have been very excited to share this fun craft/DIY project with you all. It's called a Jar of Hope. This simple, inexpensive, and adorable jar is decorated and filled with various quotes and bible verses that give a little extra faith and optimism. I have made a few this year for some dear friends and family members, and they have all said how much it helped them get through some tough times. It warms my heart to hear that something as simple as a jar can help spread hope and promise.
Here is what they look like.
Alright, so now for the fun part! Here is what you will need:
1.) Jar
2.) Small cards and an ink pen
3.) Scrapbook paper of your choice, scissors, hot glue gun
4.) Various ribbons

First thing first, make sure there are no stickers or price tags on your jar. Once removed, you can begin writing any quotes or bible verses on your cards. Anything you feel is encouraging is perfect! This is one of my favorites verses to include in my jars.

Depending on the size of your jar will determine how many cards to make. I usually use about 15-20. When you have finished writing on your cards, begin folding them in half and placing them in your jar.

Now the part I love the most-decorating the jar! You can get as creative with this as you would like.
To begin, cut out two squares from your scrapbook paper. Make one slightly smaller than the other and  be sure it is a simple pattern or solid color, that way you can easily read the title of your jar. Write "Jar of Hope" on your paper and using the hot glue gun, glue the two pieces of paper together and then to the jar.

Once you have everything glued down and secure, take out your ribbon and tie it around the top of your jar however you would like. Get creative and experiment with different textures of ribbons and colors! Also, don't be afraid to use a little hot glue as some reinforcement if you feel the ribbon might slide around. After you are satisfied with the way your jar looks....you are finished!

Another great thing about this jar is you can change the name and what's inside. It could become a Jar of Love filled with verses and quotes about love. There are numerous possibilities with this jar, and altogether this precious gift only cost me about $10 to make. Here is a list of verses and quotes I normally include in my Jar of Hope:
  • Philippines 4:13
  • 1 Corinthians 16:13
  • Romans 5:3-5
  • Matthew 19:26
  • Jeremiah 29:11
  • Isaiah 40:31
  • Psalm 18:2
  • Nehemiah 8:10
  • Joshua 1:9
  • Song of Solomon 4:7
  • Exodus 14:14
  • Psalm 3:5
  • Psalm 27:1
  • Isaiah 41:10
  • Romans 8:31
  • "Faith is taking the first step, even when you don't see the whole staircase." -Martin Luther King Jr.
  • "You must do the things you think you cannot do." -Eleanor Roosevelt
  • "Though our feelings come and go, God's love for us does not." -C.S. Lewis

I hope you all give this project a try and have as much fun making it as I do. And to finish off, I want to leave you all with a quote from a very lovely lady:

"The most important thing is to enjoy your life-to be happy-that's all that really matters." -Audrey Hepburn
